Industrial heritage

Explore the traditional industries

The Industrial Revolution had a strong influence on the history of Luxembourg and thus has left its mark on the country. In the Éislek, visitors can admire an extraordinary industrial heritage. In the region of Martelange for example, the local economy has been driven primarily by the slate industry. After its closure, the industrial site was transformed into an open air museum and today you can discover the history of the Éislek slate during a guided tour. Close to Vianden, in Stolzembourg, copper was mined for a long time. The former copper mine has been reopened for the public and can be explored during a visit. In Esch-sur-Sure, the art of weaving was at the centre of the local economy. Nowadays, this ancient craft can be explored in the old cloth factory, which is located in the Nature Park Centre. Further exceptional sites, which invite you to discover the industrial heritage of the Éislek, are listed below.
