Tour details and programme

Stage 1: Echternach - Vianden
Distance: ca. 55 km
Elevation gain: 1050 m

Departure and arrival of the tour will be at the youth hostel in Echternach, situated right by the lake and offering plenty of free parking facilities. Our first stage will take us along the river Sûre towards Berdorf, where we take our first single trails across the Berdorf plateau and down to Halerbach. Through stunning rock formations and past beautiful panoramic viewpoints, we’ll circle around the Beaufort plateau before heading down to the river Sûre and to Reisdorf. The last part of the day’s tour will take us to the youth hostel in Vianden, situated just opposite the famous medieval castle. We’ll have dinner together at the youth hostel and perhaps go for a stroll through the charming town.

Stage 2: Vianden - Lultzhausen
Distance: 57 km
Elevation gain: 1480 m

As you would expect from a stage through the Ardennes, much of the second day of the tour will consists of ascents and descents. The first path will take us past Vianden castle and up to the water reservoir of the Société électrique de l’Our. Rewarded with impressive views over the region, we continue towards Hoscheid and Kautenbach. From there on, we pass through numerous valleys and plateaus towards Nocher and Roullingen until we reach Kaundorf. Arriving in the hills surrounding the barrier lake, we take a last, diverse single trail riddled with serpentines down towards the lake. Weather permitted, we can round off the day at the beach or on the youth hostel’s terrace overlooking Luxembourg’s largest lake.

Stage 3: Lultzhausen - Echternach
Distance: 72 km
Elevation gain: 1200 m

Our last and longest stage will take us back to the starting point of the tour in Echternach. Leaving Lultzhausen, we take a fantastic single trail to Eschdorf and continue to Ettelbrück via Oberfeulen. A steep ascent through the forests overlooking the Sûre valley will then take us to Eppeldorf before heading to Hallerbach and the Vogelsmühle. A final, challenging ascent will lead us onto the Berdorf plateau from whereon we will head down to Echternach along a beautiful path over creeks and bridges. Back at the youth hostel, participants are free to take a shower and clean their bicycles before departure.
