A Campaign Built Together

What does Europe look like when it grows from the ground up? Our campaign starts from a simple premise: the EU is present in everyday life everywhere, not just in the capitals and decision-making centers. From agriculture and environmental protection to mobility and local development, the EU plays a role in many aspects of rural life. And rural communities aren’t just benefiting from EU action – they are actively helping shape Europe’s present and future.
Over the coming weeks, the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg together with the municipalities will host a series of creative workshops in different communes across the country. These workshops are open spaces for dialogue, expression, collaboration and co-creation. Participants will be invited to share their ideas, stories, and concerns, and to explore how these can be translated into (audio)visual messages. No prior artistic experience is needed—what matters is your perspective and your willingness to take part!
Registration mandatory via https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/EU-regional-workshops. – the main language of the workshops is Luxembourgish * Please note that to ensure the workshops truly reflect local realities, participants will be selected from among applicants to represent a diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives within each region.
.
The outcomes of these workshops will not remain behind closed doors. Together with local artists, the ideas developed by participants will be transformed into a mural graffiti displayed in public spaces in the participating communes. Each mural will reflect the identity, challenges, and hopes of the community that helped create it, turning walls into shared narratives that everyone can see and engage with.
If you are curious, creative, or simply interested in having your say, we invite you to join one of the upcoming workshops. Your ideas can help shape public spaces—and the conversation within them.
Through this campaign, we hope that you will learn more about how the European Union contributes to your daily life by supporting concrete projects in your commune.
Next steps
During the workshops, a local artist will collect ideas, concepts, and designs from participants and bring them together into a single large-scale artwork. This design will then be created as a mural on a prominent wall in the commune where the workshop takes place. The mural will serve as an interactive canvas, inviting citizens to share selfies and express their ideas about the EU. The insights gathered through this engagement are an important tool to help us communicate and work together in the years to come.
On 9 May, an EU quiz will invite participants to test their knowledge of EU-supported projects in their local area (more information coming soon). The campaign will culminate on 10 May in Wiltz, bringing together all activities and local experiences to celebrate Europe Day and highlight the important role rural communities play in shaping the European Union.
* This campaign will primarily use the Luxembourgish language. By using Luxembourgish, the campaign speaks directly to rural audiences in a familiar, trusted and authentic way. Although Luxembourgish is not an official EU language, the campaign recognizes the language as a carrier of identity, belonging and confidence - and as a key bridge between local life and Europe.
