On smugglers' trails – a journey through time along the border
Immerse yourself in the world of smugglers, customs officers and curious stories from times gone by, including a light snack with ‘smuggled goods’. A real adventure for anyone who loves nature, history and a little thrill!
On World Tourism Day and as part of the ‘Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz’ campaign, hike along the Belgian-Luxembourg border, where smugglers and customs officers once played a dangerous game of cat and mouse. The starting point is the former customs house and current museum in Haut-Martelange. Along the way, you will hear exciting stories about coffee hidden in corsets, cognac in prams and how a simple ham became explosive contraband. Goosebumps are guaranteed here. What would a smuggler's hike be without contraband? Look forward to a small snack along the way. After the tour, you can round off the day at the Mouton Noir restaurant. Here you can dine either in Luxembourg or Belgium, as the border runs right through the restaurant. Another impressive smuggling story. The tour is a real highlight for adventurers and history lovers.
