Where milk comes from: discover, feel, taste
Children aged 3 and up can discover where milk really comes from in a gentle, playful way. During a visit to the farm, they meet the animals, explore the barns and enjoy lots of small moments of discovery.
How does a dairy cow live? Why is the milk warm when it comes straight from the udder? And what happens before it reaches the bottle?
In the ‘Where milk comes from’ workshop, farmer Sandra guides the children around her family farm, now in its third generation and home to around 70 dairy cows. Animal welfare is at the heart of the farm, and Sandra shares this approach in a simple, caring way that children immediately understand.
The group visits the cows, walks through the barn and onto the pasture, and learns step by step how milking works. All five senses come into play: looking, touching, smelling, listening – and even tasting. One of the highlights is when the children try fresh milk and realise that food begins as a natural product, not something that simply comes from a shop.
The workshop is designed especially for younger children, with a calm rhythm and plenty of time to observe, be curious and ask questions.
