Where? 9376 Hoscheid

Molberlee, near Hoscheid, Luxembourg, is a captivating rocky ridge offering stunning views of the Schlinder valley. Recognized for its unique biodiversity, Molberlee is a designated forest reserve and natural monument.

Nestled near the village of Hoscheid, the Molberlee mountain ridge stands as a testament to the geology of Luxembourg's Ardennes. This rocky outcrop not only offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Schlinder-valley but also plays a pivotal role in preserving the region's unique biodiversity.

The ridge, characterized by its pebbly nature, holds a distinct charm. Bathed in sunlight, it provides an ideal habitat for rare flora, thriving in the exposed and dry rocky expanse. This ecological significance has earned Molberlee a revered status as a part of the Schlindertal forest reserve. Recognized in the 1981 list of nature conservation areas and enshrined in the National Nature Conservation Plan of 2007, the Hoscheid-Molberlee site is not merely a geographical feature but a living testament to the country's dedication to preserving its natural heritage.

The very name "Molberlee" finds its roots in Luxembourgish, referring to an isolated rock, and pays homage to the surrounding flora, particularly the "Molbier" or blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus). This unique habitat is a haven for various insects, notably the rare steppe grasshopper. With only seven known locations in Luxembourg, this thermophilic insect thrives in Molberlee's plant-poor biotopes, feeding on grasses, moss, and lichens.

While the ridge beckons nature enthusiasts and hikers, a gentle reminder accompanies the invitation – tread carefully and stay on designated paths to preserve the fragile ecosystem.
