From Milk to Butter: make it yourself and discover how it works
A hands-on workshop for curious children aged 6 and up: meet the cows and make your own butter – stirring, shaking and plenty of moments to marvel.
How does butter actually come to be, and what do you need to make it? In this workshop, children join farmer Sandra to explore how fresh milk slowly turns into something familiar from their breakfast table.
The activity begins in the barn and farmyard. The children meet the cows, see how they live and learn what keeps them healthy and comfortable. Animal welfare is a central part of everyday life on the Hans Haff farm, and Sandra explains it in a simple and caring way that children understand.
Then it’s time to get practical: the children make butter with their own hands. They shake, stir and watch the milk gradually change. It’s a playful, engaging process that invites everyone to take part.
Throughout the workshop, all five senses naturally come into play: seeing, touching, smelling, listening – and finally tasting. This makes the journey from milk to food tangible and helps children understand nature, farming and food in a way that feels real and accessible.
