The Eastern Ourthe
Where? Ermitage, B-6660 Houffalize
Charming spot at the confluence of the Ourthe and Cowan rivers... take time to listen to the sounds of the water and the forest.
The Eastern Ourthe, together with the Western Ourthe, is one of the two Belgian rivers that join to form the Ourthe, the most abundant tributary of the Meuse.
The Eastern Ourthe originates from the confluence of two streams between Ourthe and Deiffelt, in the municipality of Gouvy in the province of Luxembourg, then flows west-southwest through Cherapont (ponds). It then fed the old Magottiaux and Bistain mills. It flows through Houffalize, receives the Martin-Moulin stream and then joins the Western Ourthe between Nisramont, Engreux and Filly at Lake Nisramont, formed by the dam of the same name.
